The Louisville Cardinals recently made one of the surprise hires of the offseason. Vince Marrow, formerly of rival Kentucky, is now the Cardinals’ Executive Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting.

Recently, Marrow met with the media to be introduced at Louisville. There, he explained why he chose the Cardinals over several other job opportunities that had presented themselves.

“I had a lot of opportunities to go a lot of places,” Vince Marrow said. “The main reason I chose this place was because I really love — I was invested in this state. Kentucky’s really been good to me, the state of Kentucky. I’m glad and blessed that I’ve got the opportunity to stay here… So, that’s how I see it.”

Vince Marrow is a native of Youngstown, Ohio. He’d go on to play his college football at Toledo before a nearly decade-long professional career. By 2006, he began his coaching career. That saw him land on Mark Stoops‘ staff at Kentucky in 2013, and he would hold a role on the staff during the entire Stoops tenure to this point. With Kentucky, he’d been the team’s associate head coach, recruiting coordinator, NFL liaison, and tight ends coach.

Now, at Louisville, Marrow is going to be in an administrative role. His focus is going to be improving recruiting at Louisville. That’s something that Kentucky has outdone the Cardinals recently, and needs to change for Louisville to be consistently competitive nationally.

In the 2025 transfer cycle, Louisville put together the 51st-ranked transfer class, compared to the 16th-ranked transfer class that Kentucky put together. On top of that, in the last high school recruiting cycle, Louisville had the 68th-ranked class, compared to the 28th-ranked class for Kentucky.

Jeff Brohm details how addition of Vince Marrow changes Louisville playbook

Bringing in Vince Marrow is a move that has head coach Jeff Brohm excited for the future of the program. In particular, the opportunities that it’s now going to open up.

“I think it does. I think it really helps complete what we believe in and what we’re doing. Yes, we want to help develop our players for the next level. That’s by what we coach, how we do it, how we practice, how we play, how we perform, and then we want to acquire the best talent we can to help get that done. He definitely has the ability to do all of those things,” Brohm said.

“He has strengths that to others it takes a lot of hard work. It comes very natural to him. I just think that he can help us continue to bring in the best prospects we can. That want to be here, that want to play at the highest level, and he’s just very good at it.”
