WATCH: Wright State hits buzzer beater to knock off Louisville, send Cardinals to 0-2
Louisville basketball is off to a rough start in new head coach Kenny Payne’s first season. First, the Cards dropped a scrimmage to Lenior-Rhyne, a sub-par Division II school. Then in the season-opener earlier this week, Louisville lost to intra-city rival Bellarmine, who just transitioned to Division I last year after being a longtime D2 powerhouse.
Saturday, they fell again, this time to Wright State, and in absolutely brutal fashion. The Cardinals led by five with 90 seconds to play and seemed in great shape in Wright State missed a shot with a minute to go. But they tipped in a bucket off an offensive rebound. An empty possession and layup by Wright State followed that and made the lead just one at 72-71 Cards with 12 seconds left.
On the final exchange, Louisville guard El Ellis coughed up the ball out of bounds with eight seconds left. Off the inbounds pass Wright State found star guard Trey Calvin for a deep two-point jumper at the buzzer…which he nailed to win it. Check it out:

He called game indeed. Massive shot for Wright State to give them one of their biggest wins in program history — a road win against a historic college basketball power. After making the NCAA Tournament a year ago and returning Trey Calvin for this season…the Raiders look to be one of the stronger mid-major sides this year.
Saturday only further proved that. Oh, and Calvin is averaging 37 points a game through two contests in 2022-23. Keep his name in mind.
