Wisconsin transfer guard Chucky Hepburn commits to Louisville
Former Wisconsin guard Chucky Hepburn has committed to Louisville out of the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.
Hepburn spent three seasons in Madison, where he started all 103 games he played in over his career. This past season, he averaged 9.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game for the Badgers. He’s also logged 161 career steals.
His averages went down this past season after AJ Storr transferred in from St. John’s and wound up being Wisconsin’s leading scorer with 16.8 points per game, not to mention an emphasis on the front court, Hepburn was forced to take a step back from his previous role.
As a sophomore, Hepburn averaged career-highs in scoring, averaging 12.2 points on a 40.5 percent 3-point percentage. His scoring role kept his rebounds and assists under three per game thanks to taking 403 shot attempts on the year. For comparison, he took 268 shots this past season.
In turn, his role this past season’s Wisconsin team saw him become more selective in his shot selection. This led to him shooting a career-high 42.9 percent from the field and 73.7 percent from the free throw line. As mentioned, he improved on his assisting and rebounding numbers, logging over 100 each in a single season for the first time in his career. His steals bumped up 40.4 percent (52 up to 73), and he turned the ball over nine less times (52 down to 43).

As a freshman thrown into the starting lineup, Hepburn held his own, logging 7.9 points, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game during his first season in Madison.
Before college, he was unranked, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. However, Hepburn was a four-star recruit at two separate publications that ranked him as high as the No. 15 point guard in the 2021 recruiting cycle.
Hepburn’s addition adds to the ever-growing list of talent that new head coach Pat Kelsey has assembled this season. He joins Reyne Smith and James Scott, who followed Kelsey to Louisville from Charleston, as well as James Madison transfer Terrence Edwards Jr. and Colorado‘s J’Vonne Hadley.
More names are expected to join Louisville in the coming weeks, however, these five are massive gets for Kelsey in his attempt to revive the Cardinals back to national prominence.
