Watkinsville (Ga.) Oconee County 2023 linebacker Whit Weeks found his home at LSU. Weeks chose the Tigers over his hometown team Georgia and Oklahoma. The LSU culture, history and tradition won Weeks over in the long run.

“It was really the people the place and the football,” Weeks told On3. “They’ve got great football traditions. It’s one of the best football programs of all time. I love the campus. It was my favorite campus out of all the places that I visited. Me and coach (Matt) House have a great relationship. Everyone on the staff is excited to right the ship down there.”

The trio of LSU, Georgia and Oklahoma was always where Weeks’ focus was. Weeks knew LSU was where he wanted to be during his official visit. He remembers not wanting to leave.

“I was like I don’t want to leave this place,” Weeks said. “I could move in tomorrow and be perfectly happy living here. That’s when I was like this is the place for me. That’s when it clicked.”

Did family connection play a role for Whit Weeks?

The three-star linebacker’s older brother West Weeks is now in Baton Rouge preparing for his sophomore season.

The younger of the Weeks brothers found his own path to LSU. Playing with his older brother in college is an opportunity that he relishes, but he wanted his recruitment to be his own.

“I really had to take him out of my recruiting process,” Weeks said of his older brother. “It’s unfair to the other schools for LSU to have my brother and then be one of my favorite schools. This was my decision. If it were Georgia, then it would have been Georgia. My gut was telling me that LSU is the place for me. It’s awesome that he’s there and it’s a great opportunity to get to play with him.”

Committed to making LSU a contender once again

The Tigers have made a surge on the recruiting trail in recent weeks. They are currently No. 7 overall in the 2023 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings.

Weeks is looking forward to what Brian Kelly is building in Baton Rouge. It was one of the key winning factors for Weeks.

“I looked at the heavily,” Weeks said. “That’s something I want to be a part of. I want to be a part of LSU winning national championships. I believe we’re going to. Especially with the way the 2023 class is lining up. We’ve got some dogs.”
