Gainesville (Ga.) four-star cornerback Zion Ferguson has decommitted from the LSU Tigers. He announced the news on Twitter.

Ferguson had been committed to LSU since last September.

The 6-foot-0, 165-pounder is the No. 327 overall prospect and No. 37 cornerback in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 38 player in Georgia.

“I want to start by thanking LSU for recruiting me over the past two years,” Fergus tweeted. ” A special thanks to Coach Steeples and Bobby Barham for believing in my athletic ability. After discussing with my family, it is in the my best interest to decommit from LSU. I will not be taking any interviews about this matter at this time. Thanks.”

Ferguson’s decision to decommit comes on the heels of him taking an official visit to North Carolina over the weekend. It was the lone official visit he scheduled for June.

“They’ve shown a lot of love lately,” Ferguson told On3’s Jeremy Johnson in May. “They’ve had contact with me daily. They have been talking to me and my parents. Coach Mack Brown, I like that he has a plan for me.”

“There’s a little family connection there. That’s definitely important. Family being at the game makes you want to play hard. After the game, being able to see family and going over to grandma’s house and they cooked for me and all. You can’t get that if you’re too far away. That’s something I’ve looked into.”

With Ferguson’s decommitment, LSU now has 17 pledges in its 2024 class. The group ranks as the No. 13 class in the country and No. 6 in the SEC.
