Angel Reese named BET's SportsWoman of the Year
LSU women’s basketball star Angel Reese was named BET’s SportsWoman of the Year over the weekend.
Reese was the key cog for LSU’s national championship run this winter, beating Iowa in the finals. Reese’s value skyrocketed amid the NCAA Tournament, including her NIL Valuation now listed at $1.6 million, per the On3 NIL Valuation.
Reese took to Twitter to accept thanks for the award, due to her commitment with USA Women’s Basketball this offseason.
“Thank you BET!,” Reese wrote on Twitter. “So sad I couldn’t be there but I really appreciate this! This means a lot! (happy tear emoji, black heart emoji).”
Perhaps another off-the-court award could add to her value.
The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college athletes. The On3 NIL Valuation calculates the optimized NIL opportunity for athletes relative to the overall NIL market and projects out to as long as 12 months into the future.
Reese transferred from Maryland to LSU prior to last season. She had the best season of her college career.
Reese finished the 2022-23 season with 23 points per game, 15.4 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists per game, shot 52.5% from the floor, had 1.6 blocks per game and 1.8 steals per game.

Angel Reese wins BET SportsWoman of the Year
LSU could be even better with Reese next year. Former Louisville star Hailey Van Lith transferred in this offseason, giving head coach Kim Mulkey another superstar.
“Oh my gosh. Actually, I hit her as soon as they won in the semis and after they won the National Championship” Van Lith said of teaming up with Reese. “I hit her right away because I just loved her energy. I was like…keep being you, girl, like do not let anybody make you feel bad for being who you are. Like, you are a star. And she hit me back, she’s like ‘I love you Hailey,’ like gave me all the love back, and it was great.”
Reese is the type to be the face of women’s college basketball, but she’s grounded according to her new teammate. Next year’s pairing should be one to watch.
“And then ever since then we kept in contact and I ended up choosing LSU,” Van Lith said. “She’s been nothing but um great to me, supportive. She just seems like the type of girl that wants other people around her to do well and see them win, and that’s what I respect and love about her for sure.”
