Angel Reese, Jasmine Carson rave over Alexis Morris' contributions to LSU championship
LSU point guard Alexis Morris finished her college basketball career with some of the best games of her career to help lead the Tigers to the national championship.
She averaged 23 points over the Elite Eight, Final Four and National Championship. In Sunday’s final against Iowa, Morris scored 21 points on 8-for-14 shooting with nine assists.
All-American and Final Four Most Outstanding Player Angel Reese and National Champion breakout star Jasmine Carson both had high praise for the team leader.
“She’s a first rounder,” Reese said after the game. “I told her all year, don’t turn on and off. You can kill every single possession that you can if you really want to. I’ve told her that. She just gets into a mode where she’s unstoppable at some point.”
Reese finished the national title game with 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
It was the first-ever national championship game and national title for LSU.
In addition to her scoring and offensive skillset, Morris’ defensive presence was also felt during the game. Morris spent a chunk of the game guarding national player of the year Caitlin Clark.

Clark had 30 points but was 9 of 22 from the field and 8 of 19 from beyond the arc.
“She played a great defensive game,” Reese said. “It wasn’t all her defense. It was her offense. Caitlin was a great player for sure. She had 30, but we contained her the best we could and we knew that other supporting cast, the other players couldn’t go off. Alexis has been a great player throughout her career. She’s just been great.”
Morris had a whirlwind career that ended with LSU. She was first with Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey at Baylor before being dismissed from the team. She went to Rutgers and then Texas A&M before reconnecting with Mulkey in Baton Rouge, La.
She averaged 15.4 points per game this season with 4.1 assists and 1.8 steals. Morris also shot 43.0% from the field.
“She’s just a great player and an even better person,” Carson said. “I’m just very proud of her. She stepped up in big moments in the NCAA Tournament, and I’m just really proud of her. I know her future is bright.”
