Angel Reese has been the talking point of LSU’s season thus far, not appearing in the last three halves they have played. Head coach Kim Mulkey has not revealed the exact reason for the star’s absence and on Monday, the mystery continued ahead of the game against Texas Southern.
When LSU came out onto the court for warmups, Reese was not seen participating with the team. This will be the second consecutive game the Tigers have played without Reese after getting a win on the road against Southeastern Louisiana.
“.@LSUwbkb preparing to tip with Texas Southern,” Jacques Doucet of WAFB said via X. “No Angel Reese again, missing her second straight game for unspecified reasons.”
LSU currently has a 4-1 record, with their lone loss of the season being the opener against Colorado. This is off the backs of an incredible season in Baton Rouge, losing just twice before winning the national championship game against Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
After raiding the NCAA transfer portal and finding a way to bring in even more talent, the thought was that the Tigers were going to roll toward another deep run in March. If they were able to do so last season, adding the likes of Hailey Van Lith could only provide positive things.

But the Reese situation has been a weird one for LSU early on. Her beginning the season on the court only to be taken off is an odd one. Hopefully, the situation gets resolved sooner rather than later and Reese is back showing why she is one of the best players in all of college basketball.
Kim Mulkey comments on Angel Reese missing Southeastern Louisiana game
While there will likely be postgame questions regarding Reese on Monday night, we might not get too much out of Mulkey. Following the Southeastern Louisiana game, Mulkey confirmed Reese was still with the LSU squad but no other information was provided.
“Angel was not in uniform,” Mulkey said, via NOLA.com’s Reed Darcey. “Angel is a part of this basketball team, and we hope she’s back with the team soon. I’m not gonna answer any more than that.”
LSU handled things well without Reese, getting the 73-50 victory over Southeastern Louisiana as Mulkey returned to her old stomping grounds in Tangipahoa Parish. Flau’jae Johnson led the Tigers with 17 points while Mikaylah Williams had 13 and Aneesah Morrow had a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.
