Shaq defends Angel Reese following national championship celebration criticism
Angel Reese was on top of the world on Sunday afternoon and made her feelings known. LSU was crowned national champions for the first time in program history, taking down Iowa at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Reese finished with a 15-point and 10-rebound double-double and was ready to get her ring even before the final buzzer sounded.
Well, there was another celebration done in front of Iowa star Caitlin Clark that some on social media were too happy about. Reese pulled out the “you can’t see me” by waving her hand in front of here face. The move from Reese was described as disrespectful by people who said the bragging was not necessary.
Former LSU star Shaq finally had enough, drawing the line at Keith Oblermann’s comments. While Olbermann called Reese a “f****** idiot,” Shaq decided to step in to defend Reese. She was appreciative of the support as well, knowing Shaq will be there for her.
Plenty of people have come to Reese’s defense on Monday. ESPN’s Jay Williams was one, saying plenty of famous athletes are known for their trash-talking. Stephen A. Smith spoke about the incident on First Take as well, not having a problem with the actions of Reese.
However, Shaq deciding to chime in and step in for Reese means LSU people are sticking up for other LSU people. Reese is fresh off winning a national championship and is instead dealing with social media coming after her. If anybody was going to defend her no matter what, it was always going to be Shaq.

Angel Reese earns ring with national championship win over Iowa
Reese was in his first season with the LSU program, previously playing for Maryland. The move to work with head coach Kim Mulkey paid off in big fashion, making a dream NCAA Tournament run. In fact, the Tigers only lost two games this season. Both occurred against SEC opponents (South Carolina in the regular season, Tennessee in the SEC Tournament).
In 36 games played this season, Reese ended the year as LSU’s leading scorer and rebounder by a good margin. She averaged 23 points and 15.4 rebounds per game. Reese was able to collect some assists as well, dishing out 2.3 a night.
Every single game saw Reese finish in double figures when it came to scoring. A truly remarkable season for her as the celebration now continues on in Baton Rouge.
