LSU continued their winning ways on the court, taking down Texas Southern at the PMAC on Monday. It’s their fifth consecutive victory after beginning the season with a loss. However, the biggest story surrounding the program continues to be the status of Angel Reese.

Reese was not present during pregame warmups and was not in uniform on Monday night. Head coach Kim Mulkey was asked about her status with the Cayman Islands Classic next on the scheduling, beginning with a game vs. Niagara on Black Friday.

Mulkey was not too keen on giving out information during her postgame press conference.

“If I have, I wouldn’t tell you,” Mulkey said. “You’re not entitled to that information. So, I’ll say it again. Angel was not in uniform tonight. Angel is a part of this basketball team. Angel will be back sooner rather than later.”

When asked if Reese had been practicing with the team Mulkey responded “I have given you my answer.”

From a pure basketball perspective, not having Reese on the court will hurt LSU in the long term. In just four games this season, she is averaging 17.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Reese did not seem like she was going to be slowing down after her fantastic NCAA Tournament.

But with the unknown issues popping up, Reese is not currently playing for LSU. According to Mulkey, this is nothing new for her after a long career in coaching. She just wants to attempt to keep things internal, similar to a family.

“You always have to deal with locker room issues,” Mulkey said. “That’s just part of coaching. In 40 years, I can never think of a time I didn’t have to deal with issues. That’s what coaches do. Sometimes y’all know about them and sometimes y’all don’t. Sometimes you want to know more than you’re entitled to know. I’m going to protect my players. Always. They are more important. It’s like a family.

“If you do some disciplining of your own children, do you think we’re entitled to know that? That’s a family in that locker room.”

LSU will spend Thanksgiving on the road, participating in an MTE. As mentioned, Niagara will be the first game on Friday before facing off against Virginia the next day.

Mulkey will continue to receive questions about Angel Reese then. Whether or not answers are provided, we will have to wait and see.
