Angel Reese: 'We have to keep our heads high'
The LSU Tigers women’s basketball team came within three wins of defending their title as national champions and winning back-to-back titles after falling in the Elite Eight to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
LSU lost the Albany 2 Regional final game to Iowa by a score of 94-87. After the game, Tigers star forward Angel Reese took a moment to reflect on not only the game but also the Tigers’ wild 2023-24 season.
“Yeah, we’ve seen everything this year. We have been through so much adversity. I’m more than proud of this team. We don’t have that much depth. We have some injuries. I took some time away from the team,” said Reese.

“So many things happened this year, so many things hit us, and we never folded. Just being able to come out tonight and give our all for 40 minutes, we came up short, but we have to keep our heads high.”

From stories about their head coach, Kim Mulkey, to ones involving the playing status of Reese and her relationship with her teammates, the LSU women’s basketball team has gone through a lot both on and off the court. Unfortunately for them, all that they went through this season did not culminate in a second national championship. But who’s to say whether or not Reese will return next season and attempt to bring home a second women’s basketball national championship to Baton Rouge?
Reese shares she will make a decision on her future
Reese has stated a decision on her future will come once the final game of the 2023-2024 season is over. Reese was likely hoping that would be in Cleveland while celebrating back-to-back national championships with LSU. Unfortunately, Iowa put the Tigers’ year to bed in the Elite Eight — a heartbreaking moment for everyone inside of the program.
So, what’s in store for Reese as far as returning to college basketball and turning pro? Nothing new as of moments following the final buzzer sounded in Albany. Reese was asked if she would be leaving for the WNBA and said when she’s ready, a decision will be announced.
“I’ll make a decision when I’m ready,” Reese said during her postgame press conference.
