BJ Ojulari explains how his game will translate to the NFL at 2023 Combine
There are a lot of great college players who don’t translate to the NFL for numerous reasons. However, LSU edge rusher BJ Ojulari expects that he’s going to translate well to the NFL.
Ojulari explained why his game is going to translate well to the NFL while he met with the media at the NFL Combine.
“Yeah, so in Coach [Matt] House‘s defense I played more of a Jack outside linebacker, dropping, being able to show my versatility in the drop, being able to rush as well and create plays behind the line of scrimmage,” BJ Ojulari said.
“But, any defense I feel like can flourish. Whatever the coaches and the coaching staff decide I’m gonna do, I think I’m gonna be very good at it.”
BJ Ojulari played for more than one defensive coordinator during his time at LSU. Because of this, he’s proven that he can succeed in multiple different defensive schemes.
“Coach Daronte’s [Jones] defense is more, like you said, destroying blocks, creating a lot of movement. If you go watch the Alabama game, we created a lot of pressure, a lot of movement on the line of scrimmage, and that allows us to be freed up and be able to create tackles behind the line of scrimmage.”
Why BJ Ojulari stayed at LSU
After Ed Orgeron was fired and LSU brought in Brian Kelly, BJ Ojulari made an important decision to stay with the Tigers.
“Yeah, for me it was never about who’s coaching or anything like that. For me the biggest thing was staying at LSU, just knowing the great history that LSU has, ultimately I fell in love with the school. But there’s been great coaches before me, there’s going to be great coaches after me. But Coach Kelly, he just has a certain process. When teams apply that process, it’s proven to be successful. I know it’s successful for us. He does things a certain way,” Ojulari explained his decision.
“Yeah, as being one of the leaders, I’ll say my buy-in was pretty immediate just with Coach Flint and them coming in during the bowl game, starting to implement the little pieces of the strength training process. Having to buy in and show the guys that this is what you have to do, this is the new process that is at LSU.”
