It seemed like a long shot that LSU would even have a chance to beat Florida State. Then, when the Seminoles fumbled on the goal line going into the end zone, the Tigers were able to march the length of the field, eventually scoring a touchdown as time expired to make the game 24-23. Brian Kelly had a decision to make in his first game at LSU. Do you kick the extra point and play for overtime, or go for the win in regulation?

Ultimately, Brian Kelly chose the conservative decision, opting to kick the extra point and play for overtime. It was blocked and LSU lost. This was the second blocked kick on the day. In turn, this immediately begged the question, why didn’t you go for two?

While speaking to the media, Brian Kelly addressed his thought process on the decision, saying he considered going for two “for a slight moment.”

“[I] felt like, in that situation, that it was the prudent and percentage-wise that we were gonna be able to execute it,” Brian Kelly said.

It’s completely fair to expect your special teams unit to be able to execute an extra point. At the same time, the LSU offensive line had played poorly and made a mistake in protection during a kick already. So, that’s the decision that Brian Kelly needed to make.

UMBC trolled Brian Kelly, LSU

The loss was heartbreaking for LSU and Brian Kelly. Now, other college programs are pouring salt in the wound. UMBC is best known for producing the first men’s basketball team to beat a one-seed as a sixteen-seed in the NCAA tournament. Now, they’re using social media to troll Kelly and the LSU Tigers.

A video they posted to their Twitter account showed the UMBC soccer team scoring a goal. The caption simply read, “A clutch kick that wasn’t blocked.”
