Brian Kelly has put together a winning resume at all of his head coaching stops in college football and the new LSU Tigers frontman plans for that to continue at his new home.

Earlier this week, Kelly met with the media and laid out his plan to find early success in 2022.

In coming to the high-powered SEC, the former Notre Dame coach was asked about how many points he believes he needs to average to win the conference and national championships.

“That’s really a difficult question because it depends on what’s happening on the other side of the ball,” Brian Kelly responded. “If you’re playing an offense that is similar in the sense that they want to run the football and they want to keep it close to the vest and they want to eat up the clock and huddle, then obviously that margin would change.

“If somebody is trying to push the ball vertically and run fast, then it changes the margin and the way you play. To be tactical and understanding the game is so important as we talk about advanced scouting. Because that’s what I will talk to my coordinators about. At the end of the day, it’s all about how we win the game. Many times people look at your yards per game, what you throw for or how many points you score per game. I’ve always focused myself on one thing and one thing only, and that’s winning.”

Brian Kelly on what excites him about his first year at LSU

Kelly and the new coaching regime are preparing to embark on their first year leading the LSU Tigers, and the former Notre Dame frontman recently expressed his excitement about the challenge ahead.

“I think for me, the process is about really building the right traits for the group,” Kelly said.

“As we get an opportunity to be around them more and more, whether that is actually when you put the helmets on, or whether you’re having dinner with them or meeting with the leadership group, or you’re in the weight room with them, to me, that’s one in the same.”

While Brian Kelly understands the small football details are important as he builds his new squad, he believes each day leading up to spring football is just as valuable as the coming practices themselves.

“Yeah, there’s talent, there’s route running and all of those things that are football related that are important as well, but each one of these days is an important day. Building those habits and traits that are so necessary to be a championship football team, I’m excited as every day kind of goes by just as I would be just waiting for spring practice.”
