LSU head coach Brian Kelly said following Saturday’s disappointing loss to Alabama, “We own it together.” The Tigers entered the SEC showdown with aspirations of making the College Football Playoff before being pounded 42-13 at Tiger Stadium.

Brian Kelly joined The Paul Finebaum Show on Monday and was asked to further clarify his comments about owning the loss. Kelly explained that LSU has a talented team but the coaching staff needs to do a better job.

“So generally speaking, when you go in and you start to take ownership of these things, you know that at the end of the day, it’s a team that you’ve played that physically, this was a really good football team. And we did everything, our kids, they fought their tails off,” Brian Kelly said.

“But when we look at the film and we go in and we’ve already done this, obviously, we as coaches have to be in a position and a mindset to know that we’ve gotta put our kids in a position where they can succeed against a really good football team.”

Overall, it was an incredibly disappointing night for the LSU football program but it’s one Kelly hopes the Tigers can learn from.

“I felt like after that game was completed, we needed to do a better job of putting our kids in position to succeed. And I don’t think we did that,” Kelly said. “So that was essentially the comments I made after the game.”

LSU will look to get back on track this weekend when the Tigers take on Florida in The Swamp. It has been a disappointing year for the Gators but they have played well at times, particularly with DJ Lagway at quarterback.

It will be interesting to see if the freshman is able to play after getting banged up a couple of weeks back against Georgia.
