Brian Kelly gives update on wide receiver room, importance of depth
LSU is, as usual, flush with talent at the wide receiver position, and head coach Brian Kelly plans to maximize the production his wideouts can provide. With sophomore Jack Bech and redshirt freshman Chris Hilton now healthy after some injury trouble, Kelly has plans to lean on the depth and talent at the position.
The Tigers are experienced at wideout, too. LSU will feature Kayshon Boutte, Jaray Jenkins, Brian Thomas Jr., Malik Nabers and Kyren Lacy — a transfer from Louisiana — all of whom have logged significant snaps.
“Well you’re going to see them all play,” Kelly said. “We want to play fast. We want to play with some tempo. We’re going to push the ball down the field, so those guys are going to have to stay fresh. We want to be able to attack defenses with — six, seven deep at that position is going to serve us well. So, you know I think they all serve an important role.”

Boutte is the top dog at wideout for LSU. He amassed 38 catches for 509 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021 and landed on the preseason Biletnikoff Award watchlist for 2022. Beyond him, there’s still an array of options at wide receiver who Kelly plans to deploy. Jenkins has 62 catches for 966 yards and eight touchdowns in three years at LSU. Bech had 43 catches for 489 yards and three scores as a true freshman in 2021.
“Kyren Lacy’s going to be involved in that as well. He’s had a couple of really good scrimmages for us. Jaray Jenkins has been really solid for us and consistent,” Kelly said. “So I think all those guys are going to play a significant role and I think it’s, you know, to have that kind of depth, we’re going to use it as a strength of ours by really keeping those guys fresh and rotating them into the game.”
