Brian Kelly: Emery Jones, Mekhi Wingo doubtful, Chris Hilton probable for Army
LSU has a bit of an unusual game on their schedule coming on Saturday. Army will be coming to Baton Rouge, setting up for a unique matchup. Not only is it a nonconference showdown taking place in the middle of October but the Black Knights are still running the triple option. Brian Kelly will have a different kind of preparation in front of him this week.
Unfortunately, there are going to be some injuries LSU is dealing with. Kelly said offensive tackle Emery Jones and defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo are unlikely to play. While both are wanted in a game likely decided by the line of scrimmage, the Tigers will have to deal without them.
“We’ve got two guys that are doubtful for this weekend,” Kelly said. “That’s Emory Jones and Mekhi Wingo. They’ll be listed as doubtful. We’ll see how they progress throughout the week.”
Wingo has been dealing with his injury all season and played limited snaps against Auburn. Jones’ problem is fresh though, occurring on Saturday. The starting right tackle was diagnosed with a right ankle sprain.
Kelly believes both Jones and Wingo can get back to 100% at some point this season. They are huge parts of what they are able to do in their respective units and are experienced players. Getting them back into the lineup as quickly as possible will be the goal.

LSU will have a bye week following the Army game before traveling to Tuscaloosa for a huge SEC West showdown against Alabama. Kelly likely wants Jones and Wingo playing and ready to go with the Tigers walking into what should be a hostile environment.
“We think it’s an injury that can be managed quickly well,” Kelly said. “And we’ll have him back. As we look at this, from an injury standpoint, we’re always going to be deliberate and making sure these guys are 100% moving forward as we get into the year.”
Shifting toward some positive news on the injury front, Kelly believes wide receiver Chris Hilton is going to be probable. Just another weapon potentially available for Jayden Daniels, not that he needs any kind of additional help.
“Chris Hilton is a probable for this weekend,” Kelly said.
Hilton was the only LSU player unavailable for the Auburn game and has missed extended time. He last played in the loss to Ole Miss, recording five receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown throughout the entire season.
