LSU head coach Brain Kelly provided an updated injury report Thursday for the Tigers ahead of their Week 1 showdown versus Florida State.

Four players were originally named on the injury report heading into the week: running back Armoni Goodwin, offensive lineman Kimo Makane’ole, defensive lineman Maason Smith and running back Josh Williams.

Smith is out due to a suspension, and there was no update on Williams. But Kelly did say that Goodwin was downgraded from doubtful to out and Makane’ole was upgraded from questionable to probable.

“Armoni Goodwin is out,” Kelly said. “He’s working hard to get back but he’ll be out for this weekend. Josh Williams is probable and we’ve upgraded Kimo to probable. So both of those guys will travel and again, they’ll be probable. I think that’s a good sign from the injury report. We weren’t sure. We felt like Amani was gonna be a tough one with the hamstring. He’s working hard but it’s probably going to be another week.”

The Tigers will also be without running back John Emery until Week 3 for an undisclosed reason.

LSU takes on the Seminoles on Sunday night in Week 1’s highest-profile matchup. Florida State won the non-conference battle last year behind a blocked PAT after time expired, capping off a wild and turbulent Week 1 contest.

One year after making his first appearance in Purple and Gold, quarterback Jayden Daniels will lead the Tigers into Orlando for the game.

Kelly noted during the week that Daniels is exactly where the team wants him to be heading into the season.

“We’ve seen his growth off the field in terms of his work in the community, his ability to lead; he’s been named captain,” Kelly said during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference. “He’s developed in a manner that, when you see his work in practice, you see a more complete quarterback. And those are the things that we’re mapping out. He’s stronger physically. He’s put on the right weight. He’s healthy in all those areas.

“Now, it’s about flipping that switch and going from all this preparation to performance. And my experience tells me if you’ve prepared the right way in all of those facets, the performance kind of takes care of itself. So now it’s just a matter of waiting for that opportunity and then taking advantage of it.”
