Brian Kelly on LSU fans storming field: 'It's not something that you enjoy'
The LSU Tigers and head coach Brian Kelly earned an emotional victory over Ole Miss after coming from behind and forcing overtime. There, the Tigers managed to secure a major win. With that, fans from Death Valley poured onto the field.
In the wake of that celebration, Kelly admitted that when fans storm the field it can be scary and it’s not something that he necessarily enjoys.
“Look, it always is the result of a good thing,” Brian Kelly said. “From that perspective, I guess your mindset is, ‘Okay, that’s good.’ But it’s not comfortable. You’re in a mass of people, and you’re being moved through a crowd of people. And you’re worried about somebody getting knocked down. It’s not something that you enjoy, let’s put it that way.”
LSU was fined $250,000 for having fans storm the field following the game. That’s in accordance with the SEC’s procedures and was credited as a second offense. Thus, the school was charged $250,000 instead of $100,000. A third offense would cost $500,000. This all comes a week after the SEC fined both Arkansas and Vanderbilt for their respective field storming incidents.
“You love the fact that you won the game,” Kelly said. “You love the fact that people are celebrating an incredible victory. But the implications of what has to happen next is they’re rushing you off the field, and it quite frankly, is unsettling.”

While the situation on the field in a field storming incident is uncomfortable, Brian Kelly was still happy to get a win. That’s a win that analyst Paul Finebaum knows has positioned LSU well moving forward in the 2024 season.
“I know some LSU fans are going to say today, ‘Hey, you know we’re just one play away from whatever.’ No, you’re not. I mean, they should have lost the South Carolina game. So it evens out. I mean, that was such a big game for Brian Kelly, and now he’s got some typical road games ahead, but that Alabama game is looming so large in the second weekend in November,” Finebaum said.
“And quite frankly, they’re in great shape. They have now moved into that upper echelon of the SEC teams because so many others are starting to back up.”
Next up, LSU is on the road to play Arkansas. The next time the Tigers will be in Death Valley will be in November for another massive game against Alabama.
