Brian Kelly on Ole Miss loss: ‘We need to be pissed off’
Coming into the 2023 season, there were incredibly high expectations for LSU to compete for the SEC West. However, after a 3-2 start to the season, it looks like it’s going to be a long and difficult path to play for the SEC Championship for Brian Kelly and the Tigers.
After losing a shootout to Ole Miss, Kelly was asked where LSU goes from here. He explained that it needs to start with the team’s attitude.
“We need to be pissed off about what happened and have some resolve about our circumstance,” Brian Kelly said. “That’s not a standard of play that’s acceptable.”
Ole Miss beat LSU 55-49 after scoring 21 fourth quarter points to take a late lead. At the end of the game, LSU had a couple of shots at the end zone but weren’t able to connect before the game was over and Ole Miss fans charged the field.
“So, I expect them to respond the right way. They’ve got a lot of pride. They play for LSU. They know that that’s not the standard and I expect them to come back Monday ready to make sure that they address and we address as coaches the things that we need to do better as well,” Kelly said.
Later in his press conference, Brian Kelly was asked how he tells if his team is pissed off and what he’s looking to see out of the team.
“Well, they’ve got a lot of pride. They’re not happy. They’re upset. I mean, they know what happened out there. They had a chance to win the football game, and they prepare, they work hard, they want to win, and they feel like they let that game get away from them,” Kelly said.

“Again, everybody has to respond to adversity, coaches and players alike. It’s life. Everybody’s gonna have to deal with adversity in some manner and we have adversity in front of us. Let’s see how we’re gonna handle it. I think our guys will respond, and we put the challenge out there. We’ll go to work on Monday.”
Next week, LSU will take on Missouri.
Ole Miss trolled LSU following the game
Following the game, Ole Miss used a “deep fried” version of the Brian Kelly and Walker Howard recruitment video that showed the pair dancing to “Callin’ Baton Rouge” to troll LSU after the game. The Ole Miss social media account quoted LSU posting the final score with the video to tease Kelly and the Tigers.
“Deep fried” videos online are videos where the quality has been artificially lowered. In this case, it was pretty clearly done to troll the Tigers.
Worse than joking about the video that went viral in a bad way for Brian Kelly and LSU is that Walker Howard transferred to Ole Miss. So, the joke really is on LSU in more ways than one.
