Brian Kelly provides update on offensive lineman Will Campbell following hospitalization
LSU true freshman offensive lineman Will Campbell was hospitalized during walk through on Friday ahead of the LSU-Tennessee game that kicked off at 11 a.m. local time. Head coach Brian Kelly offered up a few more details on what happened to Campbell and how he is doing.
Campbell had an “episode,” according to Kelly, and the good news is early tests have shown it’s not anything life threatening. Leah Vann of The Advocate added that dehydration might’ve been a factor, among other things.
Kelly added that an ambulance came out on the field to take Campbell to the hospital after receiving treatment from EMS, according to Shea Dixon of On3’s The Bengal Tiger.
The lineman posted on Instagram showing that he was hospitalized, the first anyone publicly knew of what happened. LSU lost to Tennessee, 40-13.

Campbell being hospitalized first came to light when he posted about it
Campbell shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed late on Friday, holding up an “L” for LSU with his hand.
“Appreciate all the prayers,” Campbell captioned the photo. “I’ll be back.”
Moreover, Campbell was one of LSU’s top recruits in the Class of 2022, a four-star offensive lineman out of Monroe, Louisiana, according to the On3 Consensus. The now-LSU starter was the No. 3 overall recruit out of Louisiana, the No. 2 overall interior offensive lineman and the No. 40 overall player in the nation coming out of high school.
In 2022, Campbell’s been essential to the success of Brian Kelly’s Tigers, helping protect Jayden Daniels and allowing him to lead the LSU offense. Obviously it was a blow to lose a starting offensive linemen for a game, but Campbell’s health is obviously the first priority. Based on what he and Kelly have put out there, there’s reason to be hopeful that he’ll be OK and back on the field for the Tigers.
