Brian Kelly reveals how LSU is preparing for the environment against Auburn
SEC road games are among the loudest, most raucous environments a football team can enter, at any level of the sport. LSU knows well, considering they pack more than 100,000 fans into Death Valley on a weekly basis. But this week, the Tigers visit the other Tigers. Those on the Plains in Auburn — another one of the wildest atmospheres in the nation. So how does head coach Brian Kelly ready his troops to face the pandemonium in an SEC West rival’s stadium?
“Well, I think, first of all, you know, you have to duplicate that in practice and maybe over-emphasize it in practice, make it a little bit more difficult,” Kelly shared at a press conference this week.
As best they can, the LSU staff will try to mimic the noise level the Tigers are likely to face in Jordan-Hare this weekend. Sure, the team may be down compared to normal years for the program, but the War Eagle faithful will still bring a storm from the stands.
Of course, there’s just nothing like the true experience, no matter how loud the LSU coaches make practice. But Kelly believes the staff has done its best to show the players how loud the stadium will be.

“Which, I think, we made it pretty difficult in practice this week with with crowd noise. So I think you start there,” said Kelly, before going on to explain why he and the other coaches need to sort of simplify their communication to avoid any confusion amid all the chaos.
“And then I think, you know, you have a way to keep things simple and move quickly to limit some of the things that that can be part of bringing the crowd into the game. The more you’re over there checking and changing things, it brings the crowd into the game. So I think there’s some things that you can do technically. But look, I think you all know the the best way to keep a crowd quiet is to play really well on offense. So that’s what we hope to do.”
Going to be a very tough test for LSU due to the crowd alone. And if they allow Auburn to gain some momentum early, it’ll get even harder. At least Brian Kelly believes his team will be well-prepared.
