Brian Kelly has decided who LSU’s starting quarterback will be. He’s not saying who it is publicly, though.

Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier were competing to be the Tigers’ QB1, and Kelly said the team knows who won the competition. However, he’s still not saying anything to reporters with LSU’s season opener coming in just a few days.

“We’ve told the team,” Kelly said in a Thursday press conference. “We announced it to the team. I wanted the team to know so we don’t go out on the practice field and the defense is over there going, ‘Aight, why wouldn’t coach let us know?’ But we told them we didn’t want it out on social media. They did a really good job keeping it from you guys [in the media].”

Kelly has said he won’t publicly name a QB1 before LSU’s game vs. Florida State

According to the freshly minted Tigers leader, it was simply too close to kickoff against the Florida State Seminoles for Kelly to choose between Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier.

“When it was time to talk to the guys, we were so close to the game it didn’t make any sense for me to tip that off,” Kelly said on the SEC Coaches Teleconference this week.

Evidently, Kelly simply doesn’t believe in giving his opponents an advantage over the Tigers heading into Week 1. Confident in both quarterbacks, but Kelly is keeping the word mum on which one he’ll be starting the season off with.

Still, Kelly has praised both quarterbacks throughout the summer, but only one will take the field first to lead LSU into battle. It’ll be either Daniels or Nussmeier at quarterback when the Tigers take the field Sunday against Florida State.
