Brian Kelly reveals Sevyn Banks will make season debut on Saturday against Mississippi State
Sevyn Banks was one of many transfer portal additions for LSU, but he didn’t play in the Tigers’ first two games of the 2022 season. That might change this week, according to Brian Kelly.
Kelly told reporters Banks is preparing to make his season debut during LSU’s SEC opener against Mississippi State on Saturday as a rotational player. The former Ohio State cornerback is still working his way back from a hip injury which took away the last three games of his 2021 season, but Kelly said he’s preparing to play against the Bulldogs Saturday in Baton Rouge.

“He’s in a place where he feels he can do the things necessary to help our team win,” Kelly said, via The Advocate’s Leah Vann. “He hasn’t played in a while. So … what type of rotation that is, is yet to be determined, but he’s ready to play.”
Before his injury last season, Banks had eight tackles in four games for Ohio State. He’ll get his first shot at a role in the secondary Saturday when LSU and Mississippi State face off at 6 p.m. ET.

Brian Kelly addresses his mindset entering Mississippi State week: ‘Success breeds confidence’
Brian Kelly has an interesting mindset for his LSU squad following his first win as its coach. After finding some success against Southern, Kelly is expecting that to carry over into their showdown with Mississippi State this weekend.
Speaking with the media, the Tigers leader revealed he believes his team’s confidence level will be raised at practice, and against the Bulldogs.
“Every game that they play, our guys, is going to be an opportunity for growth. You want that growth to happen through success. Success obviously breeds confidence. Confidence then is an accelerator in what you’re doing. Everybody can move forward. Everybody tends to question themselves if the outcomes aren’t right,” Kelly said. “So yes to your question, but we’re not going into the game look at it from that perspective. Really, I’m going into this game with the challenge of how we prepare differently this week with such a, we have to have a better week of preparation than we did last week. The competition is keener and better, we have to get our guys to elevate that preparation. That’s what I’ll be looking for.
“If we get that, we’ll play much better and the outcome will probably be where we need it to be.”
