Brian Kelly reveals what LSU's offense needs to do to take the next step
LSU has been one of the most explosive teams in the SEC this season thanks, in part, to the stick of dynamite the Tigers have under center in Jayden Daniels. Balance has been a problem at time for LSU, and sitting a 3-1 through four games, head coach Brian Kelly has seen enough to identify the problems that’ll keep his team from getting to where they need to be.
“I think consistency on the offensive side of the ball is going to be really important for us and certainly, getting off to a good start is, every head coaches game-plan,” Kelly said Thursday. “Look, I think what’s more important is, not only getting off to a good start, but playing mistake free, eliminating self inflicted wounds.
“We’ve done a really good job tape taking care of the football, if we can continue to do that eliminate some of the pre snap penalties, we’re going to be okay. We’re getting better at the areas that we need to in terms of efficiency on offense.”

Kelly wants to put an emphasis on the Tigers’ rushing attack moving forward, too. No true running back has amassed 200 yards from scrimmage for LSU this season, though Armoni Goodwin‘s 199 tops the list. In terms of true rushing, Daniels takes the cake with 262 yards to go with

LSU ranks No. 5 in the conference in total offensive yards, No. 4 in rushing yards and No. 5 in passing yards. On paper, the Tigers are a top five team in the SEC, but aren’t getting the respect they deserve. With no memorable wins this season, LSU just needs to stay on the track its on, improve every day and mow through the opponents in front of them.
“I think we’re kind of rounding into who we are,” Kelly said. “But I think it’s important that we continue to be who we are, and that is: we haven’t turned the football over. We’ve got to eliminate the pre snap penalties. And then defensively, we’ve got to be able to stop the run. That’s kind of the bigger picture for me.”
