Brian Kelly reveals where win over Alabama stands amongst the best in his career
LSU head coach Brian Kelly enjoyed many a great win at Notre Dame, an even made it to a national championship with the Fighting Irish. However, few wins in his coaching career meant more than finally getting over the hump against Alabama last Saturday, and doing so in his first season in Baton Rouge. For Kelly, the win over the Crimson Tide is a landmark achievement in his career.
But it’s not the ultimate goal. Of course, Brian Kelly was emotional in the days after the huge win, and noted it was one of the best of his career. However, the best win would be a national championship and that’s the primary focus for him with the Tigers.
“You know, the biggest one in my career is going to be when we win a National Championship. And so I was focused on one thing when I came down here and that’s to win championships,” Kelly shared at his press conference this week.
“That’s one game,” he said of the ‘Bama victory. “It was an exciting win, but I don’t put it in the the category of the biggest. I think I’ve had teams that have achieved great things. And I think this team achieved a great victory because of where we were in January and what we’ve become. So maybe, for me, probably as satisfying as a win for a group of guys that have committed themselves to a process and in that time have have achieved a lot.”

Kelly is thrilled to see the progress from this program in less than a year since he took over. For him and the team, this win was an emotional moment.
“I mean, I had never beaten Alabama. And so, you know, those things are kind of like…you want to check the box and move on. So yeah, you get a little emotional about those moments. And I was emotional not for myself but I was emotional for our team. Because I know what we looked like in January. And to see where we are today, that’s pretty emotional, right?”
Great victory for the Tigers and a huge stepping stone in the Brian Kelly era.
