Brian Kelly discusses excitement of coming to LSU, upcoming Garth Brooks concert
Brian Kelly came to LSU to win football games, but he is also excited about the cultural changes that come with moving to Baton Rouge.
In his introductory press conference on Wednesday, Kelly addressed alignment, roster moves and coaching decisions. He also discussed a big upcoming social event.
“I think we got Garth Brooks coming before the first game,” Kelly said. “I’m pretty excited about that. That should be really cool.”
Brooks will appear at Tiger Stadium on April 30, 2022, the school posted on Twitter on Wednesday morning.
Fans can purchase tickets through the LSU website beginning Dec. 10.
Ironically, Brooks played a concert at Kelly’s former home, Notre Dame Stadium, in December 2018.
“I got a chance to see him at the other place I was at, and he’s really really good,” Kelly said before asking the pool of media if they are fans of the country singer.
Kelly also took a moment to discuss what he would like to see from the fans come football season.
“I want the fans here early and tailgating and having a good time and filling the stadium and being enthusiastic,” Kelly added. “But you gotta put a great product on the field too. So my job is to put an exciting, winning football team on the field, and come early and stay late if you’d like.
“I’m just so excited to see that stadium filled.”
Kelly looking to win a championship
Brian Kelly isn’t afraid of the microscope he’ll be under as the new leader of the LSU Tigers. During the press conference, Kelly elaborated on his fearlessness when it comes to the spotlight.

“You’re looked at in-terms of championships here. I want that .. to be under the bright lights,” stated Kelly. “I want to be on the Broadway stage. That’s what my passion is. Yeah, that’s part of the draw — there’s no doubt about that.”
Furthermore, Kelly was asked if he believes the LSU job provides him his best opportunity to win a national championship.
“I would only say that this opportunity, for me, was one that I was ready for and excited to take on,” stated Kelly. “… I think each opportunity you measure differently. This opportunity is clearly different than any other opportunity I’ve had.”
As the Tigers searched for their next head coach, it was highly publicized the last three LSU coaches have all won championships.
