Brian Kelly and his boss, LSU athletic director Scott Woodward, have been pretty open in wanting the SEC to adopt a nine-game scheduling model for football in the conference. And speaking with Paul Finebaum on Tuesday at SEC meetings, Kelly is confident that the league is working with the proper urgency.

Kelly thinks ultimately the scheduling disagreements will be resolved and that the league probably goes to nine games. In any regard, eight or nine games, he thinks the SEC will be getting something figured out this week.

“I think it’ll be resolved. I think that there is a desire,” Kelly said. “When you have all the parties here, they recognize that there’s an urgency to get something done. I think by the end of the week with the presidents here, the athletic directors here, coaches obviously, our commissioner, wanting to get something done. I think you’ll see something done by the end of the week.”

Beyond scheduling, Kelly said the coaches were discussing pretty much all the trendy college football topics of the day.

Of course NIL and the transfer portal were on the table, but so was plenty more.

“Look, as you know, the hot-button topics are certainly name, image and likeness, transfer portal, scheduling, to name a few. Gambling. I think all of those have probably touched your desk in terms of the topics that you’ve talked to your guests about and certainly everybody that follows your show. And we have to address them as well. And they’re not easily handled in a meeting, but we have to address them,” Kelly said.

And for all the public disagreements and differing opinions, Kelly has found that when the coaches get together, they tend to be on the same page about trying to address the issues they percieve.

Whether they completely agree or not, action borne from compromise is better than standing pat as the college football universe warps around them.

“I think, for the most part, there’s like-mindedness in terms of the things that we have to get done. And we don’t have all day to sit there and pontificate and talk about our own personal opinions as much as we gotta get things done. So I think guys kind of put those thoughts aside and find out how we can get to a quick consensus on, as you know, probably some of the most explosive things that we’ve had in college football in some time,” Kelly said.
