Brian Kelly updates recoveries of Sevyn Banks, other LSU stars
LSU has been without three of their stars over the past few weeks, and that could change starting this week.
Ahead of Saturday’s matchup against Florida, Tigers head coach Brian Kelly revealed the latest on the recoveries of Sevyn Banks, Major Burns and Armoni Goodwin.
“Major [Burns] is out there, he’s been on our scout team. He’s done a nice job, I think he’s on on track to meet that timeline that we talked about, some time around the Alabama game, so pretty happy about that,” Kelly said Thursday. “Same with Armoni Goodwin. If things go well with Armoni, he may get cleared as early as this coming week and be available for Mississippi, so he’s a little bit of ahead of schedule.
“Sevyn, going through the normal protocol and procedures in terms of getting full range of motion back. He’s in the training room. He’s begging to travel. He’s anxious to get back and do the things necessary, but he’s a ways away. He’s where Major was, obviously, after the first week.”

Banks’ injury happened in Week 5’s victory over the Auburn Tigers. He went to tackle Auburn kick returner Ja’Varrius Johnson on the game’s very first play, but lead with his helmet and immediately dropped to the ground following the hit and was taken to the hospital.

Burns is dealing with a neck injury of his own as well. Kelly said late last month that he expects Burns’s recovery period to be between three and six weeks. He’s expected to make his return sometime around the BYE week toward the end of October.
Goodwin’s hamstring has been bothering him since the New Mexico shutout on Sept. 24. Not having played the last two games, he’s still the top running back on the team statistically having carried the ball 34 times for 199 yards and five touchdowns.
Kickoff between the Tigers and Gators is set for 7 p.m. ET live from The Swamp on ESPN. Florida has opened as 2.5-point favorites.
