Brian Kelly uses one word description of Jack Bech as a punt returner
It looks like Brian Kelly and LSU have found a punt returner in Jack Bech. A talented sophomore, Bech had an outstanding freshman season in 2021 with 43 receptions and three touchdowns. However, his offensive numbers are down to start 2022. Still, he has all the talent in the world to contribute on special teams.
While speaking to the media, Brian Kelly was asked to grade Jack Bech’s performance as a punt returner against New Mexico.
Brian Kelly had one word to describe Bech, “Fearless.”

“Fearless,” Brian Kelly reiterated. “We’ll work on a couple things where ‘fearless’ shouldn’t be always the number one criteria for returning punts. We want some decision-making in that as well.”
“But that’s how Jack plays, right? I mean, he’s at his best when he’s not worried about any factors other than competing and getting the ball in his hands and it’s fun to watch. I mean, that’s just the kind of player he is. But, you can see what kind of impact he can have in our punt return game.”

Brian Kelly explained that this attitude and ability aren’t just good for Jack Bech himself. It’s good for the punt return unit as a whole.
“And, look, and the trickle-down is, the other 10 guys, they want to block for him. And that is an added incentive when you have a punt returner that can break it, it adds a great energy to the entire group.”
Jack Bech had two returns and averaged 5.5 yards per return against New Mexico. A wide receiver, Bech was a four-star receiver in the Class of 2021 and is a Louisiana native.
