LSU needed its roster to step up in order to extend their season versus Wake Forest in the College World Series. In the end, the Tigers got what they needed with the help of a three-run home run from 1B Cade Beloso.

Following LSU’s 5-2 win over the Demon Deacons, Beloso went through his thought process at the plate. He said he adjusted his plan for the at bat with how it went and used what he learned from his head coach to give his team the boost that they needed.

“I was just trying to hit a fly ball to center field, stay out of the double play,” Beloso said. “Once that passed ball happened, kind of changed my mindset a little bit.”

“When you have a coach as good as Coach Jay? Especially with hitting (indiscernible) the ball at your thigh? You better listen,” said Beloso. “I got a changeup at my thigh and put a good swing on it and it went over the fence.”

LSU stepped up to the plate down by a score of 2-1 in the third inning. Still, they did enough work with Dylan Crews, Tre’ Morgan, and Gavin Dugas to tie things up by the time that it was Beloso’s turn.

At that point, Beloso got a hold of his homer and drove Morgan, Dugas, and himself in. That gave the Tigers a lead of 5-2 which, after six more innings of play, ended up being the final margin.

This play unfortunately didn’t come in the clutch as the game remained within reach for both teams. Still, from LSU’s standpoint, it made no difference to them as they kept their advantage and, eventually, achieved their goal of pushing their season to another day with a rubber match between the two set for tonight at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN2.

Beloso excited to see Paul Skenes pitch vs. Wake Forest

LSU ace Paul Skenes has a chance to throw the Tigers to the College World Series with a victory over Wake Forest on Thursday night.

Cade Beloso is already ready for Skenes’ outing. He’d love to see the future first-round MLB Draft pick carve up Wake Forest with their season on the line.

“We love when Skenes pitches,” Cade Beloso said postgame. “I don’t know if he’s going tomorrow night, but that would be good for us.”

Skenes has been incredible for the Tigers this season. He has started in 18 games and boasts a 12-2 record. In his 114.2 innings, he has posted an 1.81 ERA, a 0.776 WHIP, and 200 strikeouts. He rightfully was named a First-Team All-American for his services on the mound for LSU.

The first pitch for the elimination matchup is set for 7 p.m. ET live on ESPN and ESPN+. The winner will take on Florida in the College World Series final.
