LOOK: 5-star WR Carnell Tate meets Ja'Marr Chase during LSU visit
2023 IMG Academy (Fla.) five-star wide receiver Carnell Tate took his official visit to LSU this weekend and was greeted by a legendary Tigers receiver.
Tate posted a photo to Twitter with current Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver and AFC champion, Ja’Marr Chase, following LSU’s spring game. Chase helped lead LSU to a national championship during the 2019 college football season.
Carnell Tate is one of the nation’s most sought-after receiver recruits in 2023. The On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average, currently ranks Tate as the nation’s No. 19 overall player and No. 4 wide receiver.
Tate’s official visit to LSU is his first trip to Baton Rouge, expanding on his relationship from Notre Dame with LSU head coach, Brian Kelly.
“We have a great relationship. I’ve been up there almost seven, eight times so our relationship is great,” Tate said about Kelly. “I just hope to feel love and hopefully for them to show me how I fit in their system and how they can use me.”

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine gives LSU less than a 1% chance to land Tate’s commitment, but that could change as his relationship with the Tigers’ coaching staff builds throughout the cycle. Tennessee leads the way at 54.8% following his visit to Knoxville earlier this month. Ohio State is right behind at 36.1%, while Notre Dame sits at 7.1%.
Carnell Tate Scouting Summary
On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote the following on Carnell Tate as a prospect:
Well-rounded receiver with technical savvy and large catch radius. Has very long arms and big hands. Highly coordinated with the ability to track, adjust and high-point the football in contested situations. Has shown some encouraging route-running skills. Doubles as a dangerous return man due to his change of direction and open-field vision. A good athlete with play speed, though not quite as fast as some of his peers in a combine setting.
