LSU baseball team departs for College World Series
The LSU baseball team departed for the College World Series on Wednesday, with a large group of fans on hand to cheer the Tigers on.
LSU will arrive in Omaha, Nebraska on Wednesday and have plenty of time to get acquainted with Charles Schwab Field Omaha, before beginning play at the CWS on Saturday against Tennessee. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
It’s no surprise that a big crowd was on hand as LSU departed for the College World Series. Tigers fans are known as some of the most loyal and passionate fans in all of college baseball. There are sure to be plenty of LSU fans at Omaha cheering on the Tigers, too.
LSU is back at the College World Series for the first time since 2017 and is one of the favorites to come away with the national title.
The Tigers currently have the second-best odds to win the national championship at +340, behind only the favorite in Wake Forest at +230.
In order to reach the College World Series, LSU took care of business at home in back-to-back weekends at Alex Box Stadium.
In the regional round of the NCAA Tournament, LSU went 3-0 with a win over Tulane and a pair of wins over Oregon State. This past weekend, the Tigers went 2-0 against Kentucky to advance to the College World Series.
LSU heads to Omaha with a 48-15 record and as the No. 5 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Joining the Tigers in Omaha are Oral Roberts, TCU, Virginia, Florida, Stanford, Wake Forest and Tennessee.

Jay Johnson: This LSU team is the complete opposite of entitlement
LSU head coach Jay Johnson has the Tigers back in Omaha and is proud of the attitude his team has had all year.
“I think the accomplishments, I mean, entitlement, that’s a good word,” Jay Johnson said. “And to be the complete opposite is a great quality in your team, and that’s our team.”
This is Johnson’s second year as the head coach at LSU. In 2022, he led the Tigers to an NCAA Regional but wasn’t able to get past that point. Prior to that, they made the Super Regionals in 2021 and 2019. The Tigers also were College World Series runners-up in 2017, having won the championship in 2009.
“I mean, they are very mature in their approach. We’ve been very intentional about our approach, and this is a special deal, getting there, because outside of Riley [Cooper], Bryce [Collins], and Christian [Little], none of the players have been to Omaha. So, it’s a big accomplishment and they knew they had to go earn it,” Johnson said.
“With that being said, we clearly set a goal that is beyond being in the College World Series, and they believe in themselves at a high level. They know what elite preparation looks like. They know what being in the moment looks like. I think they’ve exhibited that over the past two weeks as good as you possibly can.”
