So many young baseball players wrestle with the decision of playing baseball in college or taking their talents to the professional level out of high school, and Dylan Crews knows that as well as anyone.

After winning a national title at LSU on Monday, Crews reflected on his decision to take his talents to Baton Rouge instead of the minor leagues. He certainly has no regrets, and is offering some advice to others in similar positions at the moment.

“Man, it was a tough out of high school. I was an 18-year-old kid. Didn’t know what to expect for the future. There was a lot of, like, just if you go to school, it was like a bad thing or something like that,” explained Crews. “So to make that decision as a young kid like that and to be able to go to school — this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to go to school. And I wanted to experience this and bring a national championship to LSU.

“So if I had to give any advice, it’s go to school, really. Experience this. Don’t miss out on these three years. Just develop as a player, physically and mentally for the next level and everything will take care of itself.”

That’s some sound advice from someone who’s currently living it. Of course, Crews had arguably the perfect college career, so his view may be slightly skewed, but seeing how it all worked out for him is inspiring.

Continuing, the LSU star elaborated on what it means to bring a national title to LSU, believing he “checked off every box” with a title.

“Man, it’s such a great feeling,” Crews said. “I feel like almost every box was checked off except that national championship box. And we all knew this was going to be our last game here. And to finally say that I’m a national champion, it’s the greatest feeling in the world.

“I feel all boxes are checked off now. So it’s good.”

Crews was going to be a hot commodity at the MLB level no matter what. Now, he has an NCAA title to his name, and will always have the invaluable memories he made playing college baseball with him, as well.

Dylan Crews is certainly a success story for young baseball players to take their talents to the college game. There’s some on both sides of the decision, but Crews will never regret his.
