With Dylan Crews hitting second and Tommy White third, the top of the LSU lineup has to be the most dangerous in the country. It’s only been around for one season as well, with White coming to Baton Rouge via NC State. Even so, the duo have a great connection and shared a huge hug after the Tigers clinched a spot in the College World Series.

Following the Super Regional clincher against Kentucky, Crews was asked about his relationship with White. He said White has done well with all of the high expectations of him this season. The overall goal was to prepare him for the 2024 season when White is going to be the guy for LSU, hoping to carry on the legacy of the program.

“I love Tommy,” Crews said. “He’s awesome. Just a great kid. One of the best hitters I have ever seen in my entire life. To come here, with all the expectations that he had — to see what he’s been doing here at LSU — it’s been awesome to see. He’s the guy next year. We’re going to pass the torch onto him and I’m excited to see what he does in the future.”

This time next year, Crews will likely be deep into a minor-league baseball season. The latest MLB pipeline mock draft has him going No. 1 overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates and for good reason. Crews is hitting .433 this season, with an OPS of 1.302, 17 home runs, 61 RBIs, and a K/BB just above 2/3.

As for White, he transferred to LSU after a monstrous freshman season at NC State. Every time you looked up, it felt like White had hit a home run. When head coach Jay Johnson was able to bring him in, there was an instant buzz.

Somehow, White has become an even better hitter, having a better overall season with LSU. He has 22 home runs compared to 27 last season but his batting average is up 15 ticks to .377 with 97 RBIs. To say he has lived up to the standard, as Crews suggested, would be an understatement.

There is just one more thing for Crews and White to do together as teammates — win a national championship. A ticket to Omaha has already been punched, with play set to begin on Thursday. LSU fans will travel well and hope to see the Dylan Crews-Tommy White duo shine on college baseball’s biggest stage.
