Dylan Crews, Tre Morgan open up on tight friendship
Dylan Crews and Tre Morgan are two pillars of this 2023 LSU baseball lineup as veteran seeds of the program. These guys didn’t transfer in. No, their roots go deep, back to their true freshmen seasons, which they played for LSU and stuck around until finally making the College World Series this year. This Tiger run is in large part thanks to a duo of playmakers stayed the course and built something at their first school of choice. That’s just not as common of an occurrence nowadays.
So, the few days in between pool play and the start of the championship series provided Morgan and Crews some time to reflect on their dual journeys to this point and how they and the coaching staff have really helped one another.
“I mean, we’ve both grown tremendously because of this guy right here, really. I mean, we wouldn’t be the people we are today or players without him,” Crews said, crediting head coach Jay Johnson for helping bring the two veteran stars along throughout their time in Baton Rouge.
All those years and games and experiences together have made Crews and Morgan thick as thieves and ready to tackle quite literally any obstacle that comes their way.
“And it’s just we now know what it takes to get there and what it takes to lose those games,” Crews continued. “And it just makes us better, and now we’re here. We’re ready to go. And we’ve got two games to win. We’ll give it our best shot.”

Next, it was Tre Morgan’s turn to talk about his good buddy Dylan Crews, to which he initially said: “These past three years playing with this guy, he’s made me such a better player.” Morgan then went into more depth explaining that Crews has really helped him mature mentally during his time with LSU, especially on the field.
“He gave me a credit about my mental game earlier in this interview, and without him, it would be way worse,” says Morgan. “He showed me how to control my emotions, how to not get too high or not get too low. So I appreciate him for it. And we’re the best of friends.”
Tre Morgan and Dylan Crews, the best of players and the best of friends, which may not be a coincidence. Clearly, their bond is a strength of this team as a pair of veterans who can rely on one another and make timely plays when the team needs them. It’ll take just a little more magic off their bats to bring home the ultimate prize this weekend.
