With his the questions about his future at LSU answered, Ed Orgeron turned his attention to this weekend’s task — the Ole Miss Rebels. In his press conference this week, Orgeron praised Rebels coach Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss offense.

“I think that Lane is if not the best play-caller in the country, one of the top three best play-callers in the country,” stated Orgeron. “He has an outstanding football minds he’s doing a great job at Ole Miss. I’m very happy for him. I know that he’s a fighter, and that he comes from a football family. I know he’s going to have his team ready to play.”

Additionally, Orgeron stated how impressed he’s been with Rebels quarterback Matt Corral. Embroiled in a race for the Heisman Trophy, Orgeron is one of many who believe Corral is one of the nation’s top players.

“Matt Corral is one of the top players in the country,” said Orgeron. “Very fast, can run the football, throw the football. The thing about him, you can see Matt Corral — he plays with his heart. He plays with character. And he’s very tough.

“They have the third ranked offense in the country, they’re very hard to stop.”

As you can see, Orgeron isn’t taking the Ole Miss offense lightly. If he’s to get a victory this weekend, his offense is going to have to put up points — something they did last Saturday against Florida.

Ed Orgeron’s Future

Last weekend, LSU sent shockwaves through the college football world with its decision to part ways with Orgeron. Despite an upset win over Florida on Saturday, the two parties reached a mutual agreement — allowing the national championship coach to finish 2021.

Orgeron made his 2021 plans clear, stating he will continue recruiting, coaching and leading his team to the best of his ability. However, the Louisiana native left his future option wide open, only committing to a year off in 2022.

“There’s a couple of other things I want to get into, we’ll see if my career takes me on that path,” Orgeron said during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference. “If it doesn’t, I’ll see. I’m just open-minded right now. But I do need to take a year off, I want to spend some time with my children.”

Content with LSU’s decision, Ed Orgeron and his family remain invested in football. With three sons all focused on future coaching careers, an Orgeron will likely appear on the sidelines in some capacity.

Even with his future in flux, Ed Orgeron’s focus is on Lane Kiffin, Matt Corral and the Ole Miss Rebels this weekend.
