LSU’s final game of the regular season against Texas A&M is notable due to the fact that the game will be Ed Orgeron’s final game as the head coach of the Tigers. Players have spoken about how they want to win the final game for Orgeron, but the soon-to-be former LSU coach wants his players to play for themselves when they take the field against Texas A&M.

“Well I appreciate that,” Orgeron said of LSU players playing for him against Texas A&M. “I love those boys. They know that. But I want them to play for them. I want them to win for the Tigers. And it’s never been about me. I’ve been in a great situation here the whole time. And I want them to win for themselves. This is about them.”

LSU snapped a three-game losing streak last week with a 27-14 victory over UL Monroe. The win improved the Tigers to 5-6 on the season. With five wins and just one game remaining, LSU must win to ensure it is bowl eligible at the end of the season. This adds even more intrigue to the matchup in Orgeron’s final game.

Damone Clark is confident LSU will beat Texas A&M for Orgeron

LSU linebacker Damone Clark is among those that want to bring home a win against Texas A&M in Orgeron’s final game at the helm. Earlier in the week, Clark made a strong claim about the upcoming regular season finale.

“Oh, we’re going to beat Texas A&M,” Clark said. “I’m just grateful for the opportunity Coach O gave me. Coach O, even when he came to my house recruiting, everything he said came true. I’m just forever grateful for everything he did for me.”

Orgeron has recently reflected on his time at LSU with the end of his tenure in sight.

“Yeah, you know it’s getting close,” Orgeron said. “But you what, I said I’m going to enjoy every day. Obviously, you know, the day I got the job, being able to coach at LSU. There are so many memorable games so many memorable players, the crowd, the fans, you know winning the championship all that, but really for me daily basis just be able to come to work and coach the Tigers.”

After the season, Orgeron will be taking step back and taking some time off from coaching.

“I’m taking a year off, for sure,” he said. “I’ve got some things I got to get done. I’m going to take a year off, for sure, and I’m going to see what happens after that.”

Saturday’s kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET from Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.
