LSU lands a commitment from 5-star WR Jalen Brown
Michigan made a run at five-star Miami (Fla.) Gulliver Prep wide receiver Jalen Brown. As did hometown Miami.
But it’s Brian Kelly and the LSU staff who went into South Florida and landed a commitment from the No. 18 prospect in the On3 Consensus.
“Coach Kelly is a winner,” Brown told On3. “He is a great coach that knows how to win and he had a lot of great teams at Notre Dame. They got to the playoffs and lost to some powerhouse programs, but now, at LSU, with the talent they have, he should be able to get over that hump, and win national championships.
“… I like who coach Kelly is and how he wins. He knows what it takes, he is a smart coach, and I know he is going to do great at LSU.”
LSU official visit sealed the deal with Jalen Brown
The Hurricanes had Brown on campus for an unofficial visit late in June, but his last trip was to Baton Rouge. That visit propelled the Tigers to the top.
“The feeling I had on campus during my official visit was key,” Brown told On3. “I was high on LSU before the official visit and I was thinking about them a lot, but that official visit made a big impact on me. … Being able to learn about the culture, getting a feeling for the environment, and just knowing what LSU is as a whole put them up there for me.”
Also key was Brown’s relationship with wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton, a Louisiana native who was previously in the same role at Georgia.

“Coach Hankton and I talk a lot,” Brown said. “We have a strong relationship. I like how he teaches, I like how he talks to me, and I feel he can make me a wonderful receiver and set me up for success after football. Coach Hankton is just a great guy who is a great coach too.”
Other schools won’t stop their pursuit
Brown was able to commit with family in town and it was a big moment for the No. 3 wide receiver in the country. But his recruitment is not going to stop.
He took official visits to LSU and Michigan in June. Brown is scheduled to visit Georgia in September. He is going to take his final three official visits. And he knows schools are not going to stop recruiting him.
“Until I sign, I know recruiting is going to be here,” Brown said. “I am still going to take my visits and make sure of everything, but LSU is my top school. … It was a tough decision with Miami being the school I watched my whole life. But I feel good about it. My relationships with the coaches, the culture at LSU, and the success they have had with receivers put them on top.”
