Former LSU receiver Devonta Lee will transfer to Louisiana Tech, he announced Saturday via Twitter. Lee entered the transfer portal on Jan. 14.

The receiver spent the past three seasons with the Tigers in a limited role. He totaled 11 catches for 112 yards and scored his first career touchdown this past season. During his sophomore season, Lee converted to linebacker before moving back to receiver in 2021.

A Louisiana native, Lee was the No. 28 receiver in the 2019 classing according to On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The four-star prospect committed to LSU over offers from Alabama, Florida State, Texas and others.

The past year was a turbulent one for the Tigers, who announced midway through their season they would part ways with coach Ed Orgeron. They finished just 6-7 and lost to Kansas State in the Texas Bowl. LSU hired Brian Kelly from Notre Dame at the conclusion of the regular season.

Louisiana Tech also fired its coach, hiring Texas Tech offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie as his replacement. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 3-9 record, missing out on a bowl game. Lee’s decision to transfer to a lower-level school could be an attempt to get more playing time. It will be interesting to see what role Cumbie carves out for him at Louisiana Tech.

The LSU transfer receiver will get his first chance to make an impact with his new team when the Bulldogs open the 2022 season on Sept. 3 against Missouri.
