Wofford transfer pitchers Zac Cowan, Camden Wicker commit to LSU
Former Wofford right-handed pitchers Camden Wicker and Zac Cowan have committed to LSU, according to Baseball America’s Teddy Cahill and D1Baseball.
Both of the Terriers’ top aces are headed to The Bayou as head coach Jay Johnson bolsters up his bullpen in a major way early in the offseason. With Wicker and Cowan leading Wofford in innings pitched, ERA, WHIP, and strikeouts last season for players that averaged one inning pitched per game.

Cowan was Wofford’s top pitcher last season with a 10-2 record on the mound and an 3.35 ERA. Earning First-Team All-Southern Conference honors from the SCSMA and the league’s coaches after posting 124 strikeouts and just 29 walks in his 110 innings pitched during his sophomore season. Joining the Tigers with two seasons of eligibility remaining in his college career and the potential to make a serious impact in LSU’s rotation.
As a freshman Cowan had a 3-3 record with a 6.75 ERA in 45.1 innings, striking out 54 batters with just three walks to earn a spot on the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team.
Wicker heads to LSU following a stellar true freshman season where he himself was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team. Ending the year 4-3 on the bump with a 4.28 ERA, a 1.24 WHIP, and 57 strikeouts in his first college season.
Wicker faced off against LSU in the Chapel Hill Regional, allowing seven hits and three runs during his four innings pitched in 13-6 loss that put an end to Wofford’s season. But the Tigers clearly liked what they saw as he and Cowan will head to Baton Rouge ahead of the 2025 season.

Jay Johnson discusses alleged Texas interest: ‘I’m very, very thankful to be here’
Jay Johnson has been tied to recent rumors regarding the Texas baseball head coaching job, with some speculating that the Longhorns would potentially target him despite David Pierce still currently occupying the job in Austin.
“I have not been contacted and contractually if I was to be contacted Scott Woodward would be the first person that knows, because that’s what it says in my contract,” Johnson said. “I’m very, very thankful to be here and excited about where we’re headed.”
After leading the Tigers to a national title last season in his second year with the program, Johnson helped man a massive turnaround this past season after starting off conference play 3-12. With the Tigers winning 14 of their last 20 games on the year and falling just short of both an SEC Tournament title and a Chapel Hill Regional Championship.
