Four-Star DB Javien Toviano commits to LSU

Four-star defensive back Javien Toviano of Arlington (TX) Martin High announced his commitment to LSU Thursday afternoon. 

The 6-foot-1, 185 pounder chose the Tigers over Michigan, Georgia, Texas, and Texas A&M.

Toviano on why he chose LSU

“What really stood out to me about LSU was obviously the opportunity to be a part of the historic mantra known as DBU,” Toviano said. “But really…the new staff and what they have done in year 1. Big win over Bama, playing in the SEC championship with basically a roster full of transfers and portal guys basically there’s def potential. The class is already looking smooth. The opportunity to compete for a natty, while playing for a historic college for developing my position. The best of both worlds. No BRAINER”

Relationship with coaching staff + how they plan on using Javien Toviano

“My relationship with the staff has come a long way,” Toviano said. “The coach I built the best relationship with was Coach Steeples (Corners Coach). I see a lot of similarities of myself as a person in him as well. He played in the NFL, knows what it takes to get there, but also the hardships of it all as well. So I feel I can learn a lot from him. We can chat about anything really. As well as Coach House (Defensive Coord) I like where our relationship is headed. I feel comfortable talking to him about anything on and off the field. I definitely feel the love from him. Scheme wise, they see me playing a lot of boundary corner as well as a follow corner, and as I get a lot more comfortable being in the scheme and playbook advancing my roles potentially.”

The Lone Star State joins coach Kelly and the Tigers’ Top 5 class in the 2023 team rankings. He is accompanied by Zalance Heard, Shelton Sampson Jr., and others.

Toviano currently ranks as the No. 54 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting services. He also tabs in as the No. 5 safety and the No.9 player in the state of Texas.
