Lake Charles (La.) Lake Charles Prep running back TreVonte’ Citizen is one of the most coveted running backs in the 2022 class. He committed to LSU in June over Texas, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Auburn.

And despite the turmoil in LSU’s program and the uncertainty of who will helm the program in 2022, Citizen remains off the board. He tweeted “Solid” with a tiger emoji on Wednesday afternoon to reiterate that point.

The 6-foot, 217-pounder is the nation’s No. 6 running back and No. 68 overall player, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

As a senior this season at Lake Charles Prep, TreVonte’ Citizen has 65 carries for 743 yards and 11 touchdowns. He’s just 136 yards away from breaking 2,000 rushing yards for his career. And that’s despite carrying the ball just 200 times in four varsity seasons.

LSU looking to hold onto TreVonte’ Citizen, other remaining commits

Following the decommitment of four-star wide receiver Aaron Anderson, LSU dropped to No. 12 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. And now the coaching staff, likely to be fired with head coach Ed Orgeron at the end of the season, is trying to hold the class together.

At the top of the list is four-star quarterback commit Walker Howard. The son of a former Tigers quarterback, Howard has been an anchor to build the 2022 class around. But he has started looking around at other potential options. He took an official visit to Notre Dame last month and is reportedly visiting Ole Miss this weekend.

“Not knowing who is going to be the next head coach is scary,” his father, Jamie Howard, told the Lafayette Advertiser. “Even though he has the love for LSU and wants to be at LSU, it’s hard for a quarterback because so many things come into play with the type of offense that can potentially come with a new coach.”

Joining Howard on the commit list are four-star tight end Jake Johnson, TreVonte’ Citizen, five-star interior offensive lineman Will Campbell and nearly half a dozen others.

LSU dominates recruiting in its own state, and 2022 is no exception. The Tigers have seven of the state’s top 17 prospects already committed. And they are considered major contenders or the favorite to land six of the remaining nine who are still on the board. That include safety Jacoby Mathews (No. 32), defensive lineman Quency Wiggins (No. 67) and running back Le’Veon Moss (No. 81), and athlete Kendrick Law (No. 83).
