Garrett Dellinger injury update: Brian Kelly confirms surgery, recovery timeline for LSU offensive lineman
Brian Kelly confirmed some unfortunate news regarding offensive lineman Garrett Dellinger on Monday, revealing he had TightRope surgery and will miss an extended amount of time, including Week 11’s clash with Alabama.
“Garrett Dellinger had TightRope surgery, Brian Kelly confirmed,” Wilson Alexander of The Advocate posted on X. “LSU will be without its starting left guard against Alabama and likely longer, though recovery time can vary.”
The Tigers senior originally suffered a high-ankle sprain during LSU’s 38-23 loss Oct. 26 to Texas A&M. Dellinger did not return to the game, and the head coach said last week that the team was hoping their bye this past week could become a “recovery week” for the offensive lineman.
Evidently, it wasn’t meant to be, as Dellinger needed to go under the knife to deal with his ailment. Recovery from the surgery is typically a timeline of four to six weeks, although former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers returned to action in just 26 days afterwards last season.
Regardless, LSU is going to need to perform at their peak to defeat Alabama on Saturday evening. The Tigers and Crimson Tide still have a shot at the College Football Playoff, and a win would be a huge boost for either team, while a loss could signal the end of their potential ticket to the dance in 2024.
