Garrett Nussmeier announces return to LSU for 2025 season
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier announced on Wednesday evening that he would return to LSU for his redshirt senior season. Nussmeier was projected as a quarterback selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Now he returns to LSU for the 2025 season, giving LSU an experienced hand under center. Nussmeier has played in 30 career games for the Tigers across four seasons already in Baton Rouge.
Nussmeier announced his plans to return in a brief video.
“I feel like my time at LSU is not over. I’m officially announcing I’m returning for my final year of eligibility. And I’m fully committed to bringing this university a championship. My teammates, coaches and the fans will get the absolute best out of me every single day until we complete that goal. Go Tigers,” Nussmeier said.
Nussmeier got his first chance to be the full-time starter for LSU in 2024 and showed flashes of immense arm talent. He finished the 12-game regular season with 3739 passing yards on 63.7% completions and 26 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. He also rushed for a trio of touchdowns.
He also returns in the wake of the Tigers losing out on No. 1 overall quarterback recruit Bryce Underwood.

Another LSU star opted out of the Tigers’ bowl game
LSU will be without one of its top players in the Texas Bowl, with offensive tackle Will Campbell confirming he will sit out to prepare for the NFL Draft.
Campbell informed Wilson Alexander of the The Advocate of his intentions to opt out, noting he’ll be there for the team nonetheless.
“I’m going to be there and support them guys,” Campbell said. “I want to be on the sideline and coaching all the young guys up.”
Campbell is widely considered one of the top offensive tackles in the college ranks and a potential first-round NFL Draft pick. He started all 12 games for LSU this season.
But this year was not the first year that Campbell has made a real impact for the Tigers. He’s now a three-year starter, having started 38 games — every appearance he has made — in that time span.
