Garrett Nussmeier injury update: Brian Kelly reveals concern level on LSU QB
Right before heading to the halftime break, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was stepped on by one of his own guys. Stepping into a pass intended for Kyren Lacy, Nussmeier was soon hobbling around the field but never came off. Even going into the locker room, there was a hitch in his step.
No official word has been given but ESPN’s Holly Rowe did ask Brian Kelly what his plan would be if something was wrong. Kelly does not seem too worried about a potential injury, instead focusing on what the offense could have accomplished in the first half. The head coach plans on having Nussmeier out there.
“We’ve got three other guys that are ready to go and prepared,” Kelly said. “I’m not too worried about that as much as I’m worried about taking advantage of the opportunities we’ve had. We’ve had two times now where we’ve come up with some empty possessions. In a game like this, you don’t want to leave points out on the field.”
Nussmeier has been great in the first half, throwing for 259 yards and two touchdowns on 14 of 26 passing. To no surprise, Lacy has been his favorite target thus far as the wide receiver has caught three balls for 84 yards. Aaron Anderson and Mason Taylor have been on the receiving end of the touchdown throws.
For the time being, no concern from Kelly about the quarterback’s status but certainly to monitor early in the third quarter.

Brian Kelly hoping to get Texas A&M in predictable situations
The big storyline for LSU heading into the game was going up against the Texas A&M defensive line. NFL bodies were going to be all along the line of scrimmage in that matchup, one scouts were likely salivating over.
But through two quarters, it’s been the Tigers who have produced more pressure from the defensive line. Kelly is happy with the performance thus far after getting Texas A&M in “predictable” situations where Conner Weigman has to throw the ball. He wants more of the same moving forward.
“I think we’ve gotten good pressure from the edges,” Kelly said. “Which we have most of the year. Still, for us, it’s much more about stopping the run first. If we can make them predictable, which we have, we can get them into the some third and long situations where it’s been predictable. That’s led to us, obviously, being good on third down.”
