Callin’ Baton Rouge. Garth Brooks caused an earthquake at LSU’s Tiger Stadium.

The crowd’s reaction Brooks’ performance of “Callin’ Baton Rouge” last weekend registered an earthquake on the school’s seismograph, LSU brand officer Cody Worsham tweeted. It’s the second time a Tiger Stadium crowd caused the school seismograph to register an earthquake. The first time happened in 1988 when a Tommy Hodson-led LSU team defeated Auburn after a late touchdown pass.

“Callin’ Baton Rouge” was originally performed by the Oak Ridge Boys in 1978, but Brooks’ version — recorded in 1993 — is an anthem around LSU. The Tigers play it before football games and the baseball team runs out to it, and bars around “Tigerland” play it when they close at 2 a.m.

More recently, new LSU coach Brian Kelly got to experience his first “Tiger Walk,” set to Brooks’ version of the song. But that was months after he had his first experience with it.

Kelly might have left his mark on the song’s legacy in December when a video surfaced showing him dancing to it alongside recruit Walker Howard. The video made its way around social media, and reactions poured in from across the football world about Kelly’s dance moves. ESPN analyst Greg McElroy chimed in on the video and also made an unintentional joke about his former coach Mike Shula.

“I do think the world’s changed a little bit,” McElroy said shortly after the video went viral. “I didn’t care whether or not my coach appeared to be cool. I mean, I committed to Mike Leach and then Mike Shula. Neither one of which are the most charismatic guys in the world. So why everyone’s beating up on Brian Kelly because he can’t dance — Joey (Galloway), why does that matter? He can’t dance and he can’t pronounce the word family. What’s the big deal? I don’t get it.”
