Some may see it as a tall task for LSU to recover so quickly after what happened to them in Game 2 of the finals at the College World Series. However, that’s not the opinion of Gavin Dugas heading into Monday night’s de facto title game.

After getting popped by Florida by a score of 24-4 in Game 2, Dugas said that result means nothing in regards to Game 3. He said that LSU was rearing to go and was prepared to get the job done, regardless of what happened to them on Sunday.

“Honestly, we’re not lost. We’re ready to go. And we’re going to do what we need to do to get ready for tomorrow night,” Dugas said. “We’re going to prepare like we always do. And we’ll be ready to go tomorrow.”

“Nothing changes for us,” said Dugas. “We’re going to keep playing baseball the way we always do.”

Golden Spikes winning OF Dylan Crews shared the same sentiments following the loss. He said that LSU has had a short-term memory all season. Now, they’re going to respond how they need to in order to hoist a trophy before the end of the night.

“I feel like everybody in the locker room already forgot about it really,” Crews said. “We do a pretty good job of that. I think we’ve only lost back-to-back games twice this year.”

“Everybody’s going to be mentally sharp tomorrow. And we’re going to do what we’ve got to do tonight to get our bodies right,” said Crews. “We’ll be good for tomorrow.”

There was nothing positive about LSU giving up a College World Series record for runs to Florida on Sunday. The Gator offense had a day as they hit six home runs and finished with 18 more runs than the next closest team had scored during the duration of this year’s tournament in Omaha.

Still, Dugas, as well as Crews, have full belief in an appropriate response by LSU. They’ll need it too considering the season’s ultimate goal is going to hang in the balance on Charles Schwab Field later today.

Crews, Dugas felt like LSU was in Game 2 despite lopsided score

LSU had one of the worst days any team has ever had in the College World Series on Sunday. Against Florida, the Tigers let up 24 runs, a record for runs allowed in a College World Series Final. Despite this, stars Dylan Crews and Gavin Dugas felt like the game was closer than the score.

As Crews explained, there was obviously a point when the game was out of reach, but for the most part, it felt possible to make a comeback.

“Not really,” Dylan Crews said. “I guess you could say when it got up to about 20 runs. But we felt like we were in it the whole time, honestly. We made some pretty remarkable comebacks in our career. So it is what it is. At the end of the day, we’ve just got to move on.”

Dugas added to that, pointing out that their mindset doesn’t change in a blowout.

“To go along with that, our mindset is never to give up and just to stay with the pitch no matter the situation. That’s where we were at mentally.”
