Houston DB A.J. Haulcy commits to LSU from NCAA Transfer Portal

Former Houston DB A.J. Haulcy was the top remaining player in the NCAA Transfer Portal. Now, coming off his latest visit, he has given his commitment to his next school.
Haulcy has committed to LSU on Sunday. That comes per his representation tonight with reporting by ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
“Former Houston safety A.J. Haulcy has committed to LSU on his visit, per @APSportsAgency,” Thamel tweeted tonight.
Haulcy was one of the top transfers to enter during the spring window. He earned national interest from other top programs like Miami and Ole Miss. The Hurricanes did what they could during his visit to Coral Gables but, coming off his visit to Baton Rouge on Sunday, Haulcy has already committed to the Tigers. That’s after predictions in favor of Louisiana State on Friday by On3’s Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong.
Haulcy spent the past two seasons at Houston after starting his career at New Mexico. He has, in that career with the Lobos and Cougars, posted 259 tackles, 15 deflections, seven interceptions, and three forced fumbles with one recovery in 36 games played. That includes 172 tackles, a dozen deflections, a forced fumble, and five picks, which all came this past fall, while at UH. That earned him First Team All-Big 12 as he tied for first in the league in picks and was among the leading tacklers with the ‘Cougs.

Haulcy, a Houston native, had returned to his hometown program after playing for Fort Bend Marshall in high school just a half hour off campus. He played there as a member of the 2022 recruiting cycle where he was just outside the Top-1,500 recruits overall as a three-star. He also rated just inside the Top-125 safeties at No. 124 and was a Top-250 prospect out of the state. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Now, Haulcy was the best available name still in the transfer portal prior to this news per the latest update to On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players. He rated at No. 31 overall and as the No. 2 safety behind only Dillon Thieneman (Purdue to Oregon).
With this, LSU has added 17 players this offseason in the NCAA Transfer Portal. He’s their fifth highest-rated among those additions behind WR Barion Brown (Kentucky), DE Patrick Payton (Florida State), WR Nic Anderson (Oklahoma), and IOL Josh Thompson (Northwestern). The Tigers, with those commitments, are currently at No. 3 overall, per the latest in On3’s 2025 College Football Team Transfer Portal Ranking, behind only Texas Tech and Ole Miss.
