Ja'Marr Chase comments on trajectory of LSU football, says Evan McPherson backed out on game bet
Since LSU’s 15-0 national title team in 2019, the program has been searching for its way back to the top. They followed that historic run with an 11-12 overall record, which was enough to let go of Ed Orgeron. That led to the hiring of Brian Kelly. Through his first seven games, there are signs of a team that Tiger alumni can be proud of again. That’s at least the opinion of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who is liking what he’s seen to start the season in Baton Rouge.
In an appearance on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’, Chase shared his thoughts on the current state of the LSU program. He said he has continued his support of the program, even to the point of making bets with his NFL teammates.

“I hope they do great. I’m always rooting for them. They’ve definitely been picking up the pace these past couple of games,” said Chase. “I’m glad they beat Florida. I had a bet, (but) the dude backed out (of) the bet. I was gonna put him in some LSU gear and put it on Twitter and stuff.”
Chase has become one of the NFL’s best receivers after his two seasons at LSU. He put up insane numbers during the Tiger’s title run with 84 catches for 1,780 yards for 20 touchdowns in 2019.

After his answer, McAfee wanted to know which of Chase’s teammates backed out of the bet amidst the game between the Tigers and Gators, a matchup that LSU won 45-35 in Gainesville. Chase had no shame revealing the name as the Bengal’s kicker.
“Evan McPherson. Money Mac,” Chase said.
Kelly is doing a solid job in getting the LSU program back to where they expect to be each season. 5-2 is a good start and the team still has opportunities down the stretch. They still have to face Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas, and Texas A&M. Even if they don’t win out in those games, they’ve started well enough where Chase is in and hoping for more as the Tigers move forward.
